Holbrook School were the winners of the Horsham Area Primary Schools B Team Table Tennis League, organised by Horsham Spinners Table Tennis Club.

This league attracted 3 ‘B’ Teams plus 2 new teams from schools which had not taken part in the A Team League organised by MMJ.

Holbrook School’s line-up of Toby Elliott, Bernard Wraith & Isobel Smith were the winners by a country mile, winning all of their team matches, but none of them could defeat Charlie Jannels of St Mary’s School, the team which finished in second place.

In fact Charlie beat them all twice, as well as winning all of his remaining matches. This is even more impressive, when you consider that Charlie only started playing table tennis five months ago and is two years younger than the older players in the competition.

Gold medals were presented to the Holbrook players and silver to the St Marys players, who were Charlie, William Taylor and Tom Pearson. Charlie also got a gold medal for topping the individual averages.

Horsham Spinners coach, Rory Scott, said: “These primary schools league are a great low level introduction for new players into the world of competitive table tennis, as relatively inexperienced players can compete at their own level and achieve success.

“This often leads to players joining the club coaching sessions where they can improve their skills.”
