This year’s #TableTennisDay – when the table tennis family celebrates and promotes our sport – will be on Thursday July 14th.

We’re already planning our own special event to mark the day, and it’s time for clubs, workplaces, schools and other organisations to think about how they are going to mark the day.

This is our chance to raise the profile of the sport and to reach out to new participants, volunteers and officials. We all know our sport is great, so let’s spread the word!

We are currently working on a toolkit packed with ideas and resources to make your event a success. Keep an eye on our website for this and all the latest information. We’ll also share the latest with our members and stakeholders in our newsletters.

Some of last year’s highlights included:

• Sky Sports News carrying regular features, including interviews with Desmond Douglas and Andrew Baggaley.
• Liskeard School in Cornwall had a fantastic lunchtime of table tennis which was so successful that the PE Department ‘adopted’ table tennis days throughout the year, opening it up to all school years. The school told us: “Great event to get all students involved in a fun lunchtime of activity. Students enjoyed playing with staff.”
• Woolton Hill Sports Club ran a ‘can you beat the man with the pan?’ challenge. The club told us in its feedback: “We raised the profile locally and gained a couple of new players for our league season about to start.”
• Liberty Bishop Contractor Services Limited held a challenge tournament in the local community and told us: “The social media coverage we generated really helped raise our profile with our clients.”
• Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project held a festival in the town’s shopping centre. They said the best thing about the day was: “Engaging people, making people aware it’s a sport played in the town, people having fun whilst shopping – just stopping what they were doing and having a quick game of table tennis. Biggest thing was the promotional aspect, we got in the paper and were making a presence. Got a few new people into the sport which was great.”

The common denominators in all the events were engaging with people who don’t normally play and, most importantly, having fun!
