This year’s tournament was held at the Kidlington Table Tennis Centre on Wednesday 20th January and the players produced some outstanding play with the U/16 Boys event being of a very high standard.
In the U/13 Girls, Pelin Karabulut of the European School was a worthy winner, defeating Ellie Bailey of King Alfred’s in the final.
Jamie Liu of Shiplake College, who is a member of the England Performance squad and currently ranked as no.1 nationally in his age group, was far too strong for the other competitors in the U/13 Boys event, but credit must go to Todd Stanmore of Abingdon Prep in reaching the final. Cooper Whitford of Gosford School and Dylan Morgan of BGN, Banbury were worthy semi-finalists.
The U/16 Boys event saw many good players with league and tournament experience and the group stages saw some very close and exciting games. Reece Chamdal of Cooper School, Bicester and a member of the England Development squad was a clear winner but credit to Ryan Hambridge of Gosford School in reaching the final and Ollie Keen of Warriner School and Jack Smith of Gosford in reaching the semi-finals.
Oxford will have six representatives at the National finals in April, with both Reece and Jamie having realistic chances of winning their age groups.
Medals were presented by Karl Bushell, Oxfordshire’s leading player and County Coach.
