Led by a strong display by Jack Dewar, home-grown Ormesby players dominated the first Ormesby Junior 1 Star Open Championships on November 22.

Dewar remarkably won three singles titles – the Junior Boys, Cadet Boys and Junior Banded.

In the main event of the Junior Boys’ Singles, Dewar, the third seed, beat Lancashire’s Jack Dunning in three games to win the quarter-final and then saw off top seed Robert Renton of Durham 11-9 in the deciding game in the semi-final. Dewar then proved too good for second-seeded Ormesby team-mate David Gofton 3-1 in the final.

In the Cadet Singles, Dewar came through from the second seeded position to beat Adam Webster of Northumberland in the semi-final and top seed Gofton in the final, both in straight games.

In the Junior Banded, after losing to Gofton in the qualifying groups, Dewar beat second seed Lee Tinkler of Durham 3-0 in the quarter-finals. Thaaqib Saleem, also of Durham, was Dewar’s victim by 3-1 in the semi, he then scored his third victory over third seed Gofton by 3-1 in the final. Gofton had beaten the top seed Edward Sett of Durham by 3-1 in the semi.

Gofton combined with Ormesby team-mate Chris Edwards to win the Junior Doubles, beating Dewar and George Hill 3-1.

In the Under 12 Singles, two emerging Ormesby talents took the Junior Boys and Junior Girls’ Singles.
