The four juniors from Knighton Park who, as a team, gained promotion from Division Five of the Leicester League, are going from strength to strength.

Fresh from their triumph in winning the four-a-side handicap competition organised by the County Association they now embark on the summer league for the Elbow Tankard – and what a start they have made as Park Rangers in Group A.

They brushed aside Blaby and Whetstone 17-3 in their first match when Dan Pearson took six from six games, while Oscar White won five of his six.

Adam Green was allocated the doubles spot and won three out of four singles and the same number in the doubles. For Blaby, Tom Phipps and Jack Angrave both won a game in the singles.

Park Rangers’ second match was a tougher assignment against club mates KP 4 England, the score this time was 15-5 and it could have been much closer with a large number of deuce games.

This time it was Oscar White who took the honours with six from six and Dan Pearson three from six. Max Huggins took his turn in the team and recorded three from four and a shared doubles return.

For KP 4, Simon Aldis did well to win two of four singles, while Chris Parmar-Saville and Eddie Kwok went close many times.

Also in Group A, Bishops (Abbots Road) beat Nomads II 17-3 with both Geoff Hancock and Chetan Tailor recording five singles while Raju Rahul did even better to be unbeaten in his four singles, also doing well to win three from four in the doubles. For Nomads, Dave Croucher was the one winning their singles.

In Group B it was another Abbots Road versus Nomads clash, this time Vicars beating the latter’s first team 12-8. Ross Taylor, giving either seven or eight away each time, did very well to win five from six for Vicars with only Cliff Smith pinching one from him, and that the first game of the night. Bhulish Rathod supported Adams with four wins and Vicars had a 3-1 return in the doubles.  Smith went on to win four from six.

Closest match so far saw another Knighton Park clash when Park Keepers defeated KP Dry Roasted 11-9, and it went right to the wire. George McClurkin overcame some serious handicapping to win five from six for Keepers while Tracey Smith, making a comeback to competitive table tennis, took two.

With four from six, Simon Taylor did best for Roasted with Aga Hirt two, Pat Evans one and a 2-2 doubles return.
