Local lad Craig Brown became the first winner of Milton Keynes’ Racquet Championships, racking up an impressive 339 points from a possible 386, across two weekends of racquet sporting action.
Brown was lying in fourth position after the badminton on weekend one, some 18 points behind leader Dylan Smith. However, storming to victory in each of his nine table tennis matches, he was able to overtake Smith to win the championships by 28 points.
Father and son duo, Dush and Josha Mital, both started well to consolidate their impressive outing of joint second at the badminton. Late entrant to the championships, Alan Cherry, provided stiff competition by winning his first eight table tennis matches, only to be undone 21-17 by Brown in the last match of the tournament.
Proceeds from this tournament went to MacMillan Cancer Support, a charity very close to the heart of the Tournament Organiser, Dave Gilbert from Leighton Buzzard. Special thanks to him for envisaging this tournament and helping to support a wonderful cause.
