Gavin Rumgay’s adrenaline-fuelled ‘wedgie’ celebration was one of the most memorable moments of the Commonwealth Games table tennis tournament, becoming an internet sensation an spawning a song Do The Rumgay.

Now the Scottish player is putting proceeds from the song to good use as he plans training camps for young players in London as well as north of the border.

Every download of the song from iTunes is contributing towards funding for the camps, which would cater for beginners as well as those who have played for one or two years.

Rumgay said: “I remember when I just started the game at 12 years old I was given the opportunity to train with 17-year-old players in an elite Perth squad – and within six months I had reached the Scotland National Team.

“Opportunity is massively important and it can spark a player into producing elite performance.

“I feel that we have so many talented kids out there but they never seem to get the opportunity to be inspired by top successful athletes, so I am ready to give some kids the chance to enjoy table tennis and gain some valuable knowledge.”

Rumgay plans to run the camps in London and Perth later this year.
