LEICESTERSHIRE TABLE TENNIS ASSOCIATION

As the Leicester League’s summer competition for the Elbow Tankard gathers pace one of the best performances of the event so far came in defeat when Villagers’ Kevin Trueman won all six games against Vicars who jumped to the top of the Group A chart on the back of an 11-9 success.

Trueman was giving a fair few points each game to the opposition for whom Tosh Singh won his other four, as did Raju Rahul. Trueman gave Singh six and won 21-12, 23-21 and he beat Rahul 21-19, 21-17 having given him the same. Kelvin Herbert won two for Villagers but, as ever, the doubles proved conclusive as Vicars won those 3-1.

Nomads are vying at the top with Vicars and have a match in hand. They beat Villagers 12-8 when they posted a very good all round performance with Trevor Hawkins just leading the way with four from six. Hawkins has been showing solid form but even he could not get past Dermot Whelan who won all four of his singles as well as a 2-2 return in the doubles. For Nomads Tony Burns won three from four and Cliff Smith three from six.

It was another all round performance that bought in the points for Nomads against Park Rangers with Andy Searle spearheading with four from six, Hawkins three from three and a very useful couple from Tony Burns who featured in three from four in the doubles. For Rangers Ashley Palmer, Abraham Lam and Martin Pember all had 50 per cent returns, the doubles getting Nomads home.

Park Strollers were well beaten by Vicars for whom Raju Rahul won five, just missing out on the sixth to Aman Rashid who was giving him nine per game. Shabnam Ahmed won three from four for Vicars and was unbeaten in his team’s 4-0 doubles return. Group B next time as they catch up with fixtures.
