Chelmsford A (Chris Denyer, Ryan Gooday and Adam Kirchell) were the winners of the final of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League Junior Team Knockout Cup Competition, as expected beating Chelmsford B (Jamie Dowsett, Harry Isaacs and Jake Whybro) 9-0.

Whybro came closest to picking up a win for the B team before succumbing to Adam Kirchell in four ends – 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-2.

The 2014 Central Essex Summer League is up and running. Last year’s champions Rayne are again the team to beat in the first division and Ian Whiteside and Steve Pennell ran out 4-1 winners against ECC A. The Rayne players captured all four singles but missed out fairly decisively 6-11, 8-11, 6-11 against James Hicks and Bryn Thomas in the doubles.

Danbury A also made an impressive start and their pairing of Andrew Halling and Steve Buer beat Cold Norton A 5-0. There was no joy for Cold Norton against Ramsden Reds either. They lost 5-0 to the Ramsden side of Dave Calleja and Gary Ward.

Ramsden Raiders have made the best start in division two, beating Ramsden Rovers 4-1. Dave Carter and Ray Eldridge won their four singles but missed out in a 3-2 hard-fought doubles encounter (7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 9-11) with Andy Simmonds and Ron Biggs.

Raiders made it two wins out of two by beating Danbury B 3-2. This time Dave Carter was joined by John Parodi. Norman Smith made his mark by scoring a fine 3-2 victory (5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-4, 12-10) over Parodi.

Ramsden Rockets also made a successful start. Paul Sturton beat both Gareth Davies and Neil Freeman as they ran out 3-2 winners.

OC s B shaded a close match 3-2 against Rockets. With Sturton again winning twice for the Rockets it all came down to the final doubles encounter and Nat Ravlic and Frank Hodge came through in four ends by defeating Sturton and Louis Brown 10-12, 12-10, 11-3, 11-8.

In division three, Danbury C defeated ECC C 3-2. Dave Powell led the way by beating both Victor Chan and Dave Carter. ECC’s David Gatherall had to pull out all the stops to get the better of Brian Ellis 11-8, 11-9, 11-13, 9-11, 11-9.
Peter Windley won twice for Writtle A although it couldn’t prevent Writtle losing 3-2 to OCs C. Windley had 3-2 wins over Dave Porter (11-8, 11-7, 5-11, 8-11, 11-5) and Mick Hayes (11-8, 6-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-3).

In division four, all of the first four matches that have been contested resulted in 5-0 victories, a contrast to divisions two and three which did not contain any 5-0 results.

Danbury D (Scott Perry and Eamon Hall) ran out 5-0 winners against OCs D whilst OCs D (Charles Yeung and Tom Barker) captured all five games against OCs F.

Writtle B (Tom Griffiths and David Meah) were 5-0 winners against OCs E and the same side made it a 100 per cent winning start by beating OCs F 5-0.
