Players at Keighley Table Tennis and Recreation Centre are gaining the use of a new room thanks to funding from the council-run Keighley Area Coordinators Fund.
£1,000 of the grant will go towards renovating a room the size of a classroom which Haworth Hawks, the club that set up the Centre at Keighley Business Centre in South Street, has so far been unable to use. The money will pay for electrics, flooring and decoration, work which will be carried out by skilled professionals with members of the club standing by to help out with the more basic tasks.
The room, which will be opened later this summer, will allow the club to carry out video analysis of players’ games at a level that very few clubs in the UK offer. Players will video themselves using hand held cameras in the main hall and watch the footage back using the new room’s ceiling-mounted projector. This will show them how they need to improve technically.
The second pot of money, also £1,000, will be used for advertising and for any ICT-specific refurbishment work.
The growth of the over-50’s group has been one of the Centre’s major success stories since it opened in 2008. The club has just opened two new sessions to cater for the group, so if you are over 50 you can in theory play table tennis at the Centre every day of the week – except Saturdays!
The new sessions run on Wednesday and Friday mornings, from 10am-12pm, and cost £4 to non club members and £3 to members (including a hot drink and biscuits). Everyone is welcome, from beginner to advanced level.
Keighley Table Tennis and Recreation Centre is on the 2nd Floor of Keighley Business Centre, South Street, BD21 1SY. For more information please contact the centre on 01535 872029 or email [email protected]
