Danbury D take control in Division Two
Division Two leaders Danbury D were the week’s big winners in the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League and, what was even more impressive, they defeated second-placed Chelmsford A convincingly 9-1.
Chris Buer and Keith Phillips were both undefeated whilst Andrew Halling picked up two successes. Buer set the tone for the evening with a hard fought 3-2 (13-15, 9-11, 11-8, 11-1, 11-9) win over Julie Johnson in the first game of the night. Further down the table Danbury C beat Danbury B 6-4. Former first division player Dave Richardson won his three singles.
In the first division third-placed Maldon A missed out 6-4 against fourth placed Maldon B. This was despite Paul Sayer recording an excellent hat-trick of wins over the Maldon B trio of Keiran Lally, James Denyer and Minda Sinkus.
The match between ECC A and Elmtree Graphics A was fiercely fought and ended in a 5-5 draw. Steve Joslin won his three singles for the ECC team whilst Gary Young and Glenn Johnson both picked up doubles for Elmtree Graphics. The hard-hitting Glenn Johnson downed the challenge of Steve Kerns 3-1 (11-9, 3-11, 11-9, 11-6).
Bocking beat Danbury A 7-3. Kevin Gowlett won his three singles for Bocking but the big surprise here was Tony Forster’s superb 3-2 (11-9, 6-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-7) win over Paul Davison.
Elmtree Excalibur D are looking certainties to be promoted from Division Three. Scott Dowsett won his three singles as they beat third-placed Danbury E 8-2 and his team-mates Russell Mills and Steve Cheesman both won twice.
Rawreth made it eight wins in 11 games by beating Danbury F 7-3. Mike Worship, Matt Rolfe and Paul Churn all won twice whilst Gordon Gatherall picked up two wins for the losers.
In Division Four Hatfield Peverel D beat ECC F 6-4. Dave Carter won his three singles for Hatfield Peverel and he sealed his side’s victory by getting the better of Peter Sun 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-5) in the last game of the match.
In Division Five third-placed OCs E beat Elmtree Excalibur F 8-2. Dave Newman and Daniel Berry both recorded hat- tricks. OCS F (Tom Barker, Peter Windley and Josh Watts) were 8-2 winners over Chelmsford F. Peter Windley beat Eric Clift 3-2 (12-14, 11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-7) in the closest game of the evening.
ECC G beat ECC H 3-2 in a well-contested CLICK League encounter. Emily Wood was on top form with wins over both Jamie Rainbow and Andrew Wood.
ECC H were in turn 4-1 winners against Black Notley. Andrew Wood won twice which included a widely fluctuating 3-2 (7-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-3, 11-8) win over William Brazier.
The leaders Felsted (Sam Porter and Trelawny Joice) made no mistake against OCs / KEGS and ran out 5-0 winners. They remain undefeated with 12 wins and two draws from their 14 matches.
