Ken Tonge presentation of Paul Harris Fellowship

The Paul Harris Fellowship is an opportunity for Rotary Clubs to honour members and others for their outstanding service to Rotary and society.  It is not an honour that is bestowed lightly being the highest award in Rotary and we are very proud of our members who have received this prestigious award. 

District Governor Colin Ince was delighted to present Paul Harris Fellowship to Ken Tonge at the Runcorn Rotary Christmas function held at Runcorn Golf Club. This recognized his contribution to the community in Runcorn and Cheshire over many years. Ken was one of the first participants in Cheshire to earn the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and until recently continued as a member of the Halton Committee having been County Co-coordinator for Cheshire. His professional career as a Youth Leader at Castlefields Youth Centre, Lords Taverner’s Youth Centre, Windmill Youth Club and Ditton influenced and touched the lives of many young people in Halton. Subsequently Ken has been Chairman Lords Taverner’s Youth Centre for 12 years.

President of Runcorn and District FA he has run teams in Junior and Sunday League; served as Secretary of the Junior League and been County FA workforce co-ordinator for volunteers in football. He is also a Tournament organizer for table tennis events and assists at events at Halton TT Club.

In Rotary Ken was President of Runcorn Club from 2009-11 stimulating community activities and was then elected Assistant District Governor in 2012. This year he was a Games Maker at Paralympics at the Table Tennis having acted as a Selection Event Volunteer interviewing potential Games Makers.

Rotarian Ken Tonge was taken a back saying “its an honour to be recognized by the Rotary movement and ones own Club members”.
