ECC A and Maldon A are both big winners

ECC A and Maldon A both recorded 9-1 wins in the first division of the Chelmsford & District Table Tennis League.  Steve Joslin and Mark Mulley were both undefeated as ECC beat Danbury A.

Antony Greenwood was on target for Danbury downing the challenge of Steve Kerns 3-2 (11-6, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9) although he missed out against Mark Mulley by an equally tight 3-2 (8-11, 7-11, 11-8, 13-11, 11-9) margin.

Maldon A ’s ‘big-guns’ Alex Abbott and Paul Sayer were undefeated as they beat ECC B whilst Rik James was on target for ECC B. He beat Paul Stephens 3-1 (11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9).

Danbury B were the week’s big winners in Division Two. Neil Want, Glen Laing and Graham Briggs ran out 9-1 winners against Hatfield Peverel B. Danbury B also played well against the higher-placed Hatfield Peverel A, winning 7-3. Glen Laing was their match-winner with a hat-trick of wins over John Webber, John Gagg and John Parodi.

Elmtree Excalibur D are looking increasingly like the team to beat in Division Three. They turned in a very convincing performance to beat Elmtree Excalibur C 9-1.

Scott Dowsett and Steve Cheesman were both undefeated whilst Tony Hallett only missed out on completing his hat-trick after losing to Dave Moles by a tantalising 3-2 (10-12, 11-8, 11-4, 6-11, 12-10) margin.

Elmtree Excalibur C fared better against OCs B. They won 6-4 with Paul Sturton leading they way. He beat David Porter 3-2 (13-11, 6-11, 6-11, 11-8, 16-14) in the closest game of the night.

Danbury H (Dave Goody, Brian Ellis and Dave Powell) made it six wins out of eight in Division Four by beating Elmtree Excalibur E 7-3. They lead the way with 53 points out of a possible 80.

The match between ECC F and Chelmsford D finished all square. Allison Millard won her three singles for ECC, beating Adam Pitt, Bob Francis and Richard Upson. ECC F also drew with EPHQ and again it was Allison Millard who led the way. She won her three singles which included a fine 3-0 (11-6, 11-7, 12-10) victory over EPHQ’s top player Ian Hockley.

In yet another drawn game OCs D were held by Hatfield Peverel D. Adrian North recorded a fine 3-2 (7-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9) win over Dave Carter but he missed out 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 13-11) against Adam Carter in the last game of the evening.

In Division Five, Chelmsford E recorded their fourth win of the season by beating OCs G 7-3. Stuart Wintle was responsible for the three Old Chelmsfordians’ successes. He completed his hat-trick with a 3-2 (11-4, 11-7, 12-14, 10-12, 15-13) victory over Ian Austin in the last game of the night.

The leaders OCs E (Dave Newman, Daniel Berry and Charlie Mariner) ran out 9-1 winners against Chelmsford F. Daniel Thomas prevented the whitewash by beating Dave Newman 3-1 (11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-8) in the last game of the evening.

OCs E added another six points to their tally by beating Danbury J 6-4. Daniel Berry won his three singles for the Old Chelmsfordians side and this included an impressive 3-0 (12-10, 11-9, 11-6) victory over newcomer Richard Child.

Would all players please note that Essex County Council will be closing the County Hall Car Park at evenings and weekends until Christmas to enable preparations for major repair works to be carried out. In addition there are now new 24 hour No Waiting restrictions on all roads around the County Hall. Could all teams due to play against ECC sides in the next few weeks please make alternative parking arrangements.
