There were more Great British victories on the second day of the Paralympics at ExCeL with Class 3’s Jane Campbell leading the way with a double triumph at ExCeL.
Campbell began the day with an early win against Edith Sigada from Mexico after holding her nerve in the deciding fifth game on Friday’s morning session. Although the English girl started well with an 11-9 first game, she fell 2-1 behind after her Mexican opponent retaliated with 11-8 and 11-6 games.
But, just when it appeared the tide had turning, Campbell worked her way back level with an 11-8 fourth game before she held her nerve in front of a packed ExCeL audience to secure a 3-2 win with an 11-9 fifth game.
Campbell’s second match was slightly less dramatic with only four games required to see off her Turkish opponent. Although she traded the opening games with Nergiz Altintas she powered home 11-5 and 11-6 in the next two to secure her passage in the Paralympic Games.
Fellow victors on the second day at ExCeL included opening fixture wins for Rob Davies, Paul Davies, Paul Karabardak and Kim Daybell. The Great Britain team will hope to work their way into medal contention over the weekend as the singles competitions come to a head.
