England Players Hicks & Ware Officially Open the First Dorset School Games Table Tennis Event
The first inaugural Dorset School Games Table Tennis competition witnessed 136 young athletes from 21 Primary and Secondary Schools across the county competing in a U-12 and U-14 Girls and Boys event.
The event commenced with an outstanding table tennis exhibition from Bournemouth and England Players Hannah Hicks and Matt Ware. Athletes, young leaders, volunteers and staff observed the exceptional demonstration and high level of table tennis which the young athletics can inspire too.
The competition hosted by Harewood College in the Roy Moore Sports Hall facilitated 24 table tennis tables allowing athletes to compete in a number of single and double matches. Harewood College also provided 24 young leaders who umpired with professionalism throughout the morning. Prior to the event, local Table Tennis Development Coach, James Lewis led all leaders involved through two accredited ETTA awards which included the Young Umpire and Junior Young Leaders Award.
During the event there were 6 separate competitions, results are outlined below: –
U-12 Girls: Gold – Allenbourne Middle; Silver – Highcliffe; Bronze – Bournemouth School for Girls
U-12 Boys, Band 2: Gold – Cranborne Middle 2; Silver – Harewood College 2; Bronze – Bethany Primary
U-12 Boys, Band 1: Gold – Cranborne Middle 1; Silver – Ferndown Middle; Bronze – Allenbourne Middle
U-14 Girls: Gold – Budmouth; Silver – Queen Elizabeth; Bronze – Glenmoor 1
U-14 Boys, Band 2: Gold – Cranborne Middle 3; Silver – Bournemouth School for Boys 2; Bronze – Bishop of Winchester 1
U-14 Boys, Band 1: Gold – Harewood College 1; Cranborne Middle 1; Bronze – Poole Grammar
Bournemouth School Games Organiser, Liz Pill said: “Today’s table tennis competition has been one of 12 county Level 3 school games events taking place across 8 venues in Bournemouth which has involved over 2000 young competitors and approximately 300 young leaders to run and lead the events across the Borough. The Dorset School Games Event also coincided with the arrival of the official Olympic torch in the Borough of Bournemouth. ”
At the conclusion of the event, all schools and volunteers across the 8 hosting venues made their way back to Kings Park to collectively take part in a Closing Ceremony.
