At the halfway stage in the season Haddenham A have a nine point lead over second placed Bierton A with the rest of the division trailing in their wake with Haddenham B leading the chasing pack.
In the postponed fixture with Bellingdon from the previous week, Haddenham A won 7-3 with Lee Rogerson winning twice for Bellingdon and inflicting a rare defeat on Andy Misseldine. Darren Palmer for Haddenham was outstanding on the night and came away with a well deserved maximum. The match was a close affair with 13 deuce sets and 4 five game matches.
The Haddenham trio could claim fatigue as they had played Sports A the previous night winning 8-2. Andy had suffered his first defeat against Robert Hansell in this match but Mark Scott was outstanding, taking a maximum haul and beating Robert in five games.
Bierton A kept in touch with Haddenham with a 10-0 hammering of lowly Tring B. Third placed Haddenham B also showed their strength in depth by beating Bellingdon 8-2 with maximums for Tony Gorman and Jon Abungan. Stuart Brown managed a four game victory against Chris Hawkes and took the doubles with Lawrence Chamberlain in five games. Elsewhere, Sports B had a much needed 7-3 win at the hands of Ridgeway A. Tim Cheek and Pete Tillotson were unbeaten for Sports but Nick Tyler, Dawn Pearce and Steve Allen all managed 3-1 wins against valiant reserve, Roger Mason.
Division One is proving a right ding-dong affair this season. Quainton A, Sports C and Sports D are tied in top spot on 59 points while Ridgeway B are seven points behind with a game in hand. Haddenham D are also in the hunt on 46 points with a game in hand. In last week’s fixtures Ridgeway kept up the pressure with a 9-1 win against Sports E despite Tim Sallis’ best efforts. Tim beat Bob Croucher in four games, lost to Jeff Amor 11-9 in the fifth game and extended Brian Redrup to 22-20 in a three game loss.
Sports D won a derby match with Sports C who have led the division all season. Brian McMullan was unbeaten for the D Team with Paul O’Connell returning to form with two wins. Surprisingly their top player, Iain Willcocks, managed only one win, but lost to Nick Gourley and Malcolm Burr in five games.
Quainton pulled up level with the Sports teams courtesy of a 9-1 win at Bierton B. Bob Sargeant was Bierton’s sole success, with a prestigious victory over Paul Reynolds. Mick Simmonds supported his captain, Jim Styles, with a full house of wins, despite being extended to 12-10 in the fifth game by Graham Butcher.
Mark Luscombe recorded another fine maximum against Haddenham D where Mark Penn made him work hard before losing 11-9 in the fifth. Rose Luscombe worked tirelessly to take legs off John Cripps and Simon Witney but without further success and Mark and Fred Luscombe nearly had another doubles win, losing 11-9 in the fifth game to Mark Penn and John Cripps. In the remaining fixture Lee Mallick and James Mott were stars against Tring C with Cynthia Kunschke winning twice in their 9-1 win.
With the result of the meeting between the leaders Bucks CC A and second-placed Risborough A delayed there has been no change at the top of Division 2. Sports F beat Bucks CC B 6-4 to remain in third spot whilst Rivets B confirmed fourth place with a 9-1 triumph over Bucks CC C. Bucks CC E leapt to mid table with a surprise 8-2 victory over Rivets A, Matt Bradbury scoring a successive maximum. Leigh Hurkett’s maximum for Bucks CC D at the expense of John Fitsell and his Brill A teammates was not enough to secure a victory and they remain bottom behind their C team clubmates and Rivets A. Matt Axford has reached the mid-point of the season still unbeaten. The Bucks CC A trio of Paul Rickard, David Shapter and Dave Bradbury are waiting for him to slip up.
In Division 3 Tring E appeared to have hammered fourth-placed team Elmhurst 9-1 with maximums for Georgina Lark and James Darraugh. With four matches going to five games the result could have been a little different. Risborough B hang on to second place after a hard fought win at Quainton C but Sports G remain close behind after coasting to an 8-2 victory against Haddenham E. Brill B and Risborough C lifted themselves to mid table with a 10-0 walkover and 8-2 win respectively. Haddenham E remain bottom thanks to missing three results but Sports H appear to be the real strugglers in this division. Dave Stevens has emerged from the first half of the season unbeaten and is closely followed by Steve Tipton and Paul Unwin.
