Brotherhood K in the frame
It’s going to be tight at the top of Division Three of the Clacton and District Table Tennis League but Brotherhood K are a side with genuine promotion potential and they made a significant move up the table this week with two important victories.
Dan Malinowski and Elliott Attrill were undefeated in their team’s
8-2 win over the more-than-useful Brotherhood G, the pair combining to take the doubles 11-9 in the decider against Fred Gallone and James Smith-Daye in the closest match of the evening.
They also had a 7-3 success against Brotherhood J although Kelvin Olano starred for the losers with an unbeaten three that included a narrow 13-15, 11-9, 11-6, 9-11, 12-10 win over Malinowski.
Elsewhere, Doug Green took a treble for Nomads Tigers in an 8-2 victory over Nomads Cougars who, in their turn, defeated Nomads Leopards by the same score, Mike Hillier and Paul Hume unbeaten.
Windsor Swallows beat Brotherhood L 8-2, Malcolm Caley undefeated, as was David Wilkin in Brotherhood H’s 7-3 win over Windsor Penguins, Gerald Batt denied his hat-trick by Ray Chillingworth who took their individual match 11-9 in the fifth.
Walton A stay top of Division One after a comfortable 10-0 win over Windsor Kestrels, whilst Windsor Roosters, 9-1 victors over Walton C, are seven points behind with a match in hand.
Windsor Condors beat Windsor Falcons 6-4, Condors’ reserve Jenny Higgins narrowly losing 8-11 in the fifth to Annabelle Rodriguez, Annabelle and Felipe Rodriguez taking an excellent 13-11 in the fifth doubles win against John Pattrick and Colin Stallwood.
Martin Edwards beat Alan Burgess, whilst Ian Graham took Burgess close in five, but these were the only highlights for Brotherhood B in their 9-1 defeat at the hands of club-mates Brotherhood A.
There was only one regular player on each side in the Walton B v Nomads Jaguars encounter but Phil Buxton capped a rare appearance with a fine hat-trick in Walton’s 9-1 victory.
In Division Two three each from Isabel Barton, John Long and Brian Thiel saw Windsor Ravens to a 9-1 success over Windsor Magpies, Graham Bunce and Ron Dacey taking a lone point for the Magpies by defeating Barton and Long in the doubles.
The Magpies later beat bottom team Nomads Lynx 7-3, Nomads’ Mike Vilka having a close 12-10 in the fifth win over John Plummer, but the Lynx failed to trouble the scorer against Windsor Harriers, Jenny Higgins taking a hat-trick for the first time in over four years.
Angela Barratt had a good win against Lee Harvey but otherwise it was plain sailing for Brotherhood D, 9-1 winners over Windsor Owls, whilst Nomads Lions completed an 8-2 victory over Brotherhood E, John Weller and John Fenton taking trebles.
Windsor Hawks edged out Lawford 7-3, Windsor’s Andy Vincent losing his unbeaten tag to Peter Freeborough who then lost to Dave Austin, whilst Richard Spence beat Austin 11-9 in the fifth but
lost his first matches of the season to Vincent and John Barton.
Finally, a weakened Brotherhood C were 6-4 winners over Brotherhood F, Brian Allen and Sandie Isaac combining well for the losers to defeat Chris Smith and Lawrence Torr 7-11, 18-16, 11-3, 8-11, 11-7 in the doubles.
* In Division Two of the Essex Super-Veterans’ League,
Clacton A’s Paul Meikle, John Weller and John Hobson were 7-2 winners against Chelmsford with six of the victories won in the fifth set, John Weller staying unbeaten on his Inter-League debut.
But Clacton B lost 5-4 to Basildon B, Brian Parish winning two, Terry Kirby one, with Parish and Doug Green taking a doubles.
