The Men’s singles quarter finals finished at 9.45pm on Saturday night and we are down to the last four in both singles events.
Starting with the Women the top half of the draw quarter final results were all very one sided with 4-0 results. In the top half of the draw top seed Kelly Sibley had a relatively easy victory over Emma Vickers in straight sets to book her place in the last four. However on an adjacent table Emily Bates was playing sublime and controlled attacking to displace defender Hannah Hicks, thus gaining her revenge from Friday’s Under 21 Women’s final, with a 4-0 score and that win puts her up against Kelly in the semi final to be played on Sunday morning.
In the lower half Lauren Spink continued in her superb form to outplay sixteen year old Tressa Armitage (who has enjoyed fantastic Nationals, and is a star of the future) whilst Jo Parker proved too strong and consistent for Emma Vickers with a 4-0 win.
So the Women’s last four is shaping up as follows;
Kelly Sibley v Emily Bates
Jo Parker v Lauren Spink
The Men’s singles matches that finished late into the evening went as follows. Top seed Paul Drinkhall had a fight on his hands against Matt Ware with Paul weathering the storm to come through 4-2. The match of the evening featured Darius Knight and reigning champion Andrew Baggaley and this match was a cracker, eventually going to Andrew by 4 games to 2.
In the bottom half Danny Reed had a comfortable victory against David Meads 4-0 whilst Liam Pitchford continued to light up Sheffield with his exuberant play taking a 4-0 win against Chris Doran.
The semi finals to be played on Sunday are as follows;
Paul Drinkhall v Andrew Baggaley
Liam Pitchford v Danny Reed.
