Niall Harris (R) did his best to scupper the chances of Simon Price (L), by beating him 3-0 in the South Regional Section of the National Under 11-14 Championships, held at Basingstoke on Saturday. But it was Simon who got through to the National Under 14 Finals (top 48), by finishing 2nd in his group with 4 wins out of 6. His excellent victories over Leo Long (Berks) and winner of the U13 event Harrison Simmons (Bucks) proved decisive. Jonah Stott had the tougher group, finishing 4th with 3/6, but he put in two superlative performances, in particular playing out a spectacular match with the best player on view, Daniel McTiernan (Berks; England no 4 U13), only going down 7-11, 12-14, 8-11.
