Tom Jarvis overcame two higher-ranked players, including the fifth seed, to move into the last 16 of the Belarus Open in Minsk.

Jarvis, the world No 169, started with a fantastic 4-1 victory over world No 67 Kirill Gerassimenko of Kazakhstan, the fifth seed, in the round of 64.

His next victim was Amalraj Anthony of India (WR 121). It was a see-saw seven-setter in which Jarvis three times took the lead only for Anthony to peg him back.

The Englishman took the decider 11-8 to inflict another defeat on Anthony, having also beaten him 4-3 at the World Championships in April and 4-0 at the Commonwealth Championships in July.

Jarvis next plays Marek Badowski of Poland, the world No 120, in the last 16. It is a chance for revenge for Jarvis after Badowski beat him in the quarter-finals of last month’s Polish Open.

Tin-Tin Ho, seeded 19th in the Women’s Singles, advanced from her last-64 match against Poland’s Julia Slazak with relative ease in four straight.

But she was defeated in five games in the last 32 by Chinese opponent Kuai Man.
