Tom Jarvis, Sam Mabey, Matthew Daish and Tin-Tin Ho all picked up victories at the Belarus Open – but only Ho and Jarvis remain in the competition.

Daish was first on the table and picked up a confident 3-0 win over Victor Cissa of Moldova, who is ranked alongside him at No 800 in the world. However, defeat to Ukraine’s Yaroslav Zhmudenko (WR 189), the top-ranked player in the group stage, meant Daish went out.

Jarvis (WR 169) and Mabey (WR 934) both won their opening group matches and Jarvis followed up by beating Adrien Rassenfosse on Belgium on say two to top his group. However, Mabey had a tough task against world No 186 Sadi Ismailov of Russia in his second group match and went out.

In the Under-21s, Jarvis beat Hungary’s Lu Kaiyang in three, while Daish found Irvin Bertrand of France (WR 300) too strong and was knocked out in the first round.

Jarvis went on to beat Uladzislau Rukliatsou of the host nation in the last 32, before exiting at the hands of Vladimir Sidorenko of Russia in the next round.

Ho, 16th seed in the under-21s, won last-32 match against Italy’s Leili Mostafavi but went out in the last 16 to Valeria Shcherbatykh of Russia, the seventh seed. Ho plays in the Women’s Singles on Friday.

The doubles pairings involving Daish and Ho went out at the first hurdle in their respective competitions.
