Luton TTC founder and head coach Elroy Edwards has been shortlisted in two categories in the Luton Best Awards.

Elroy is shortlisted in the Sporting Inspiration category and in the People’s Choice award.

He was nominated for his work in establishing Luton TTC, which has grown in three years to stand at more than 100 members – men and women, young and old from diverse backgrounds including English, Polish, Irish, Jamaican, African, Moldovan, South Asian and Afghan.

Club member Sandra Hayes nominated Elroy. Her nomination form said: “Success usually takes time, but in a club that is just over three years old, they had more than 10 teams in the local leagues last season, while a very special group of young people became Bedfordshire school champions and one 13 year old is now representing her county at under 14/17 and senior level.

“However, reviving a sport and building a club doesn’t just happen, it takes a take a LOT of organisation, dedication, community spirit and ‘umph’ from a lot of people, but especially for the organiser / leader – and that very special person is Elroy Edwards.”

The nominees will be honoured at the Luton’s Best Awards ceremony at the Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa on Friday, November 29.

The Sporting Inspiration award has three nominees and is a judges’ decision, but the People’s Choice award is a public vote.
