Tom Jarvis is through to the main draw of the Poland Open, where he and Tin-Tin Ho will carry the hopes of the English contingent.
Jarvis had to come from 2-1 down to beat India’s Abhishek Yadav and take his place in the last 64, where he will face another Indian opponent, Manav Vikash Thakkar. His opponent is the 28th seed and at No 147 in the world is 29 places above Jarvis.
Ho is the only other English player left in the competition. Seeded 21st in the women’s singles, she will face Italy’s Jamila Laurenti in the last 64. Laurenti is No 212 in the rankings, 112 places below Ho.
In today’s play, Sam Mabey, Maria Tsaptsinos, Denise Payet and Emily Bolton all went out in the group stages of the singles having lost their respective second matches.

Bolton was beaten in the last 32 of the under-21 women’s singles, while Jarvis went one round better in the equivalent men’s competition, going out 3-2 to an opponent from Chinese Taipei, having led 2-0.
There was no better news in the doubles, where the four remaining pairs involving English players – two in the men’s and two in the women’s events – were beaten in the second preliminary round.
