Maria Tsaptsinos went out of the women’s singles at the Croatia Open in the last 64 today.
The England No 2 got through her group with a walkover win against a Polish opponent, followed by a 3-0 victory over Russia’s Anastasiia Komova. She was defeated in the first round of the main draw by 30th seed Yumeno Soma of Japan, who at No 134 is ranked 15 places above Tsaptsinos.
The only other English player in action was Matthew Daish, who was defeated in his two group matches in the men’s singles, though he did take the opening set against Oleksandr Didukh of Ukraine. Daish also went out in the first round of the under-21 men’s singles.
