Liam Pitchford hailed a massive achievement as he helped his Hennebont club to win the ETTU Cup for the first time.
Hennebont completed victory in the second leg away to FC Saarbrucken Tischtennis despite a 3-1 defeat on the night.
Having won the home leg by the same score, Hennebont claimed the title 19-16 in games.
Pitchford said: “It feels great, it’s my first big team title so obviously it’s a massive thing for me. To get a title in my last season with Hennebont is even better.”
Pitchford, who will play in the Japanese T.League next season, played a huge part in the victory in the first leg.
Having already beaten Cheng-Ting Liao to put Hennebont 1-0 up, he came from two sets down to defeat world No 40 Darko Jorgic 3-2 (7-11, 2-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-7) to seal the 3-1 victory.
Although he was defeated 3-2 (11-7, 5-11, 10-12, 13-11, 11-9) by world No 17 Patrick Franziska and 3-2 (9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4) by Jorgic in the second leg, the games he won proved crucial to the overall success.
The other Hennebont players on duty were Sheng Peng Fan, who beat Jorgic in the second leg, and Cedric Nuytinck, who defeated Franziska in the first.
