Chris Doran from Northampton (currently England ranked 7) gave a dominant display to win the recent Archway Peterborough ‘midweek medal’ senior 1* table tennis championships held at the TOP TABLE venue.

This innovative event attracted high quality field and a full entry featuring players from Yorkshire, Kent, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Wales.

The tournament commenced with group play followed by further matches for every player giving good value for money, an unusually high standard of midweek competition, within a three-hour period.

It was not until the final that Doran was tested to any extent, and it was local favourite Adam Jepson (Cambridgeshire champion and England No 48) who did just that in the final. Despite going 2-0 down, to his credit, 21-year-old Jepson, dug in and made a real fight of the match, showing great quality and winning some dazzling rallies.

However, despite playing with a borrowed bat, Doran came out the worthy winner and took home the £150 prize money.

Archway Development Officer, Diccon Gray said; “This midweek format is proving very popular evidenced through tonight’s event being oversubscribed. Congratulations to the winner Chris but also to our club players (Adam Jepson, Jakub Kurowski and Joe Killoran) who fought hard and gained valuable high- level match experience that will help with their development as elite players.”
